Short-Term Couples Therapy in West Seattle
Focused couples therapy for stable, secure couples facing a specific transition or decision: new parenthood, engagement, family planning, open relationships, and more.
Short-term couples therapy for solid couples at a crossroads
You’re not in crisis. You’re in a transition.
You like each other. You’re generally moving toward one another. But something specific has come up, and talking in circles at home hasn’t moved it.
I’m not a long-term couples therapist. I work with secure, committed couples or non-traditional relationship structures, who want focused help with one thing, using 90-minute or 3-hour sessions, as well as 3+ day intensives that have intentional structure to allow for targeted shifts.
What couples come to me for:
Becoming parents. The shift from partners to parents, and everything it quietly rearranges.
Deciding about kids. Whether to have a child or add to your family, when you want different answers or aren’t sure of your own.
Engagement. Getting clear and connected before the wedding, not just before the logistics.
Open and non-traditional relationships. ENM, CNM, and poly couples building agreements that actually hold.
Conscious uncoupling. Ending a relationship with care, honesty, and as little damage as possible.
In-law and family boundaries. Becoming a united front.
Grief and aging parents. Supporting each other when one of you is carrying a heavy load.
Sex and intimacy. Desire, closeness, and reconnection. [Learn more →]
How I can help
This is likely a good fit if…
You feel generally safe and respected with each other, you’re both willing to be curious, and you’re both moving toward one another, even if clumsily.
This probably isn’t the right fit if…
There’s ongoing betrayal or addiction, or current emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. These situations need a different kind of support, and I’d rather point you to the right referral than offer less than you deserve.
If you’re reeling from a recent discovery of betrayal, I’m glad to support either of you individually, and I’ll refer you to a trusted colleague for couples work.
Here’s what we’ll do together
Therapy can help you reconnect with yourself & your partner(s) in ways you long for, but haven’t had the space for.
We slow things down. Through parts work, attachment-informed conversation, and mindful body awareness, we get underneath the issue to what each of you needs, then build something you can use between sessions. No endless weekly hours. Just a clear focus, a plan, and momentum.
Questions? I’ve got answers.
Frequently asked questions —
-
No, and that’s on purpose. I do short-term, focused work with couples who want help with one specific thing. If you’re looking for open-ended weekly therapy to work through everything, I’m probably not the right fit, and I’m happy to point you to someone who is.
-
Stable, secure couples who like each other, feel generally safe together, and are moving toward one another, even if it’s clumsy right now. Usually something specific has come up: a transition, a decision, or a stuck place you can’t get through on your own.
-
New parenthood, deciding whether to have a child or add to your family, engagement, conscious uncoupling, open and non-traditional relationships (ENM, CNM, poly), in-law and family boundaries, supporting each other through aging parents and grief, and sex and intimacy.
-
Yes. Couples who come in early, before resentment sets in, often make the fastest progress. You don’t need to be on the brink for this to be worth your time.
-
I provide longer, in-depth sessions so we have the time to actually move the needle. Most clients schedule 90-minute or 3-hour sessions. That extra time lets us get past the surface conversation and into what’s driving it, using parts work, attachment-informed conversation, and mindful body awareness. You leave with a plan you can use between sessions, so you’re not relying on the therapy room to do all the work.
-
If you want to see progress faster, a 3+ day intensive could be considered. It’s a series of long, focused sessions in a row that gives you uninterrupted time to work through one issue, which works well when you’re facing a decision or transition and want movement, not a slow drip. We’ll talk through whether this format suits you on your consultation call.
-
It depends on what you’re working on, but the work is designed to be time-limited. Because sessions are longer, many couples need fewer of them than they would in a traditional weekly format. After your consultation, I’ll suggest a format and a rough roadmap, and we’ll check in along the way to see if it’s working. I’d rather tell you honestly when we’re done than keep you in therapy.
-
Yes. I work with ENM, CNM, and polyamorous partners as well as monogamous couples. I don’t assume any structure is better than another. We focus on clear agreements, jealousy, and honest communication.
-
Yes, if you want to separate with care, honesty, and as little damage as possible. This is called conscious uncoupling. It’s not couples therapy to save the relationship, and it’s not a legal service. It’s support for ending well, especially if you’re co-parenting or staying connected in some way.
-
This is the one situation I don’t take on as couples work. Betrayal, addiction, and abuse need a different kind of care. If you’re reeling from a recent discovery, I can support either of you individually, and I’ll refer you to a trusted colleague for the couples piece.
-
That’s common. The free consultation is a good first step, and you can ask me anything before you commit. Therapy works best when both of you are willing to show up, so if one of you is a hard no, we’ll talk about whether now is the right time.

While I can see couples online in WA and TN, I prefer to see couples in person in West Seattle.
